How to Store Homemade Bread

Homemade bread doesn't have the preservatives found in many store bought loaves, so proper storage helps keep it fresh. Without preservatives the flavor may begin to fade as well, so it's best enjoyed fresh within the first couple of days.

For the first few days: Keep your bread at room temperature in a sealed bread bag or airtight container. Store it somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight.

Don't refrigerate it: The refrigerator can make bread go stale faster.

Want to keep it longer? Freeze it! Once completely cooled, wrap the loaf well and place it in a freezer safe bag. You can freeze the whole loaf or slice it first so you can take out only what you need.

For the best texture: Let frozen bread thaw at room temperature. You can also warm individual slices in a toaster for that fresh baked taste.
